Circulation

Pumps, Filters & Pool Equipment

The circulation system that keeps water clear—right-sized pumps, the right filter type, and a schedule that actually turns the water over.

What it is

Understanding pumps, filters & pool equipment

Circulation does most of the work of keeping a pool clear. Chemicals only reach what the pump moves, so a weak or badly scheduled system makes every other problem worse.

The pump pulls water through skimmers and the main drain, pushes it through the filter, and returns it. A full turnover of the pool's volume every day is the general target.

Filter type shapes maintenance: cartridge filters are simple and water-efficient, sand filters are the least maintenance but the coarsest, and DE filters catch the finest particles but need periodic recharging.

What homeowners notice

  • •Cloudy water that will not clear even with correct chemistry
  • •Filter pressure well above its clean starting reading
  • •Weak flow at the returns, or a skimmer that barely pulls
  • •Pump losing prime, running dry or making grinding noise
  • •Debris pushing back into the pool through the returns
Our process

What Eden does

  1. 1

    Flow assessment

We measure actual flow and pressure and compare it to what your pool volume needs for a daily turnover.

  2. 2

    Filter service

Cartridges are cleaned or replaced, sand is changed, DE grids are inspected and recharged.

  3. 3

    Pump service or replacement

Seals, impellers, baskets and lids are repaired, or the pump is replaced with a properly sized variable-speed unit.

  4. 4

    Plumbing correction

Undersized or air-leaking suction plumbing is corrected—this is a frequent hidden cause of poor circulation.

  5. 5

    Schedule tuning

Run times and speeds are set to hit a full turnover efficiently, usually longer hours at a lower speed.

Good to know

Common questions

How often should the filter be cleaned?

Clean when pressure rises 8-10 psi above the clean reading—commonly every three to six months for cartridges here.

How long should the pump run?

Long enough for one full turnover daily; with a variable-speed pump that is often 8-12 hours at low speed.

What affects the cost?

Pump size and type, filter type and media, and whether pad plumbing or electrical needs updating.
